USA Today reported on April 6, 2009 that homelessness has increased in a number of communities across the country. The article, http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2009-04-05-homeless_N.htm, includes a number of statistics about the increases in homelessness in major cities.
On April 9, 2009 the Washington Post reported that a count of the region's homeless families, performed by the Metropolitian Washington Council of Governments, found that 5,263 people in families were homeless on January 30, 2009.
