While the United States Constitution may not recognize a right to housing, many states and cities are developing their own legislation that integrate economic rights or a general protection for the poor. Our recent Housing Rights are Human Rights manual from the 2007 National Forum on the Right to Housing discusses this in great detail. The publication is a collaborative work of NLCHP and the Centre on Housing Rights and Evictions.
In addition to state and municipal constitutions and legislation, NLCHP has compiled a list of cases that address issues of economic rights and specifically the right to housing.
